Aug 11, 2023Saf-Gard Safety Shoe Co. of Greensboro has acquired Industrial Protection Products of Salem, New Hampshire, another dealer of personal protective equipment.
The addition means Saf-Gard will add prescription safety eyewear to its corporate program offerings in the next year, as well as a greater selection of brands, a larger in-house customer service tea, and a larger fleet of mobile shoe stores.
Terms were not disclosed when the deal was announced Wednesday.
Saf-Gard was founded in Greensboro in 1980 to service industrial customers in the region, then expanded into retail sales. In 2007, it created a division dealing in slip-resistant shoes known as SR MAX, and later added Vulcan and Michigan Industrial Shoes, which it acquired in 2019.
In addition to retail stores, online sales and mobile stores, Saf-Gard provides customizable corporate programs.
“IPP has laid an incredibly strong foundation for both customer and employee engagement, which stems in part from its drive to treat people like people rather than a number,” Saf-Gard President Patrick Kubis said in a company announcement. “That resonated with us on a core level and is a major reason we’re so excited for them to join our team.”
IPP dates from 1977, according to Saf-Gard, and will operate as a division of Saf-Gard.
“As a New England family-owned company for over 45 years, my main goal was to keep the service-oriented customer focus that IPP has always had, yet be able to grow with the times in terms of product and technology offerings,” IPP President and CEO Rick Murphy said.
“Saf-Gard, with its excellent industry reputation, experienced team, and family-based culture, was a perfect fit for IPP. We are very excited about the future.”
Saf-Gard listed prior-year revenue of $109 million and reported 107 Triad employees and 322 in all when it was among the Triad Business Journal’s Fast 50 fastest-growing companies in the region in the fall of 2022.
It’s on this year’s list as well, and has been honored by the TBJ's Family Business Awards.
